At the Aosta Festival

In collaboration with american website www.gourmetcookingandliving.com

Carriers of old traditions, it is the artisans of Val d’Aosta, who every day with their creations are a living expression of thousands of years of history, just like the Sant’Orso Festival that is dedicated to them. A popular festival that knows no age, it takes place every year on the nights of January 30 and 31 in the streets of Aosta, the capital of this small Italian region, immersed among the snow-covered mountains, on the borders of France.

Around here, the artisans are so important that there is even a “path,” a sort of special route, dedicated to them, which helps stimulate the working of local materials. This work includes wood carvings, with designs that are famous throughout the world, leather, “vannerie” wrought iron (woven wicker), ollare stone, and “drap” (woolen cloth worked on an old wooden loom).

Among the Mountains of Friuli: ...

In collaboration with the american website www.gourmetcookingandliving.com

At the bottom of Val Pesarina, which connects the Carnia and Cadore regions, hidden among the mountains of Friuli-Venezia Giulia is Persariis, a small village where artisan traditions and the fruits of its generous land has distinguished it for centuries.
In fact, since 700, the area’s local artisan masters have skillfully made clocks designed for bell and town towers. Today, this rich and age-old production can be seen along a path that winds through the roads of the town, where it can be found in clock chimes, simple and turbine powered water clocks, astronomical clocks, chessboard clocks and large flip clocks. In addition, at the Pesariis Clock Museum, you can see the reconstructed history of the instruments for measuring time and admire large gears that make up delicately made wall clocks with hands to well-crafted pendulum clocks with complex mechanisms made for train stations.

"Hunting" traditions and Brunello ...

In collaboration with american website www.gourmetcookingandliving.com

We are in the second half of the 14th century in the outskirts of Montalcino, ancient suburb of Siena, when art and “polite” traditions are flourishing, among which hunting stands out. The surrounding forests, in fact, are rich in game and from August through October, when the passage of the migratory birds is denser, in particular of the thrush, they are pursued by the hunters and falconers. Their prey becomes festive banquet dishes, surrounded by jousts and tournaments in which both the nobles and the common people would participate. Originating from these ancient traditions, the “Festival of the Thrush,” a typical popular festival of Val d’Orcia, in the Tuscan region, for the past 50 years has taken place every last Sunday of October.
