Val Gardena, picturesque church of wayfarers
Friday, 27 March 2009 13:16
On top of an ancient mountain path, the Troi Paian, in Val Gardena, a church stands, reachable only by foot. In rose background of the mountain passes, you come to picturesque church of St. James, in fact, considered the oldest in the valley along this path prehistoric, which once connected Venice to the Val of Isarco. The bell tower soars in the woods and almost it influences with its chime in those silences, while the pitiful sight of St. James the Greater, patron saint of travelers and pilgrims, has lasted on walkers arriving since up, animated with good intentions.
Small cemetery where the dead of San Giacomo’s village are buried, remains adjoining, immersed in this eternal silence creating a unique ensemble surrounded by a wall, covered by a roof of wooden shingles. How to protect this oasis of peace, using real pieces of nature which are in harmony with the landscape.
