One hundred kilometers from the capital to reach Orvieto. Once in town, the sense of vertigo of cliffs scattered in prospective joints of narrow alleys and winding. A feeling that leaves only the eyes, almost reassuring, its palaces and other monuments symbol of political power. Just think of the Palazzo del Popolo, built in the second half of the twelfth century, the residence of the Captain of commons, a supreme expression of the citizen.

The most intriguing aspect of the city is given by a special atmosphere that smacks of old, not tarnished over the centuries but, rather, well integrated with the modern times. So at the end of the 800, behind the fortress  of Albornoz born the funicular, vehicle of transportation on rails that still links the Old Town to the railway station. Or again, the tunnel of escalators and elevators that making its way into the body of the millennial rock, leading from the parking field of the Fair in the historical center. Still on the theme of underground paths, then it is worth making a trip to Orvieto 'underground': caves, tunnels, wells dug into the tufa, making for a unique approach to this village with a Medieval quarter still intact, including the Well della Cava, the Lombard-Romanesque church of San Giovenale and cloister of San Giovanni, today Palazzo del Gusto.
