Sperlonga, immaculate pearl of the Tyrrhenian

Sperlonga litorale lazialeWhitewashed houses perched on a steep hill. Remains of ancient buildings which demonstrate a past rich of history and culture. Small lanes, crossing each other constantly, leading along vast stretches of beaches, clear frames of the Tyrrhenian sea. Already from this number, writing Paesaggiritrovati.it began to breathe an air of summer in one of the cleanest seaside villages of our country: Sperlonga.

We are in Lazio, in the province of Latina, in a beautiful town built on a promontory and surrounded by a sea so transparent as to be awarded, for over 11 years, of Blue Flag by Fee, Foundation for Environmental Education, international award that recognizes the quality of water and services dedicated to tourists. Sperlonga, in fact, is not only a summer destination for lovers of ‘good sea’. The country, in fact, defended on the Mountains Aurunci of land, is also history and tradition.

A true masterpiece of nature preserves almost intact its original nucleus, taste typical Mediterranean, with whitewashed buildings, joined together by small arms going to overwhelm the narrow streets. Everything, including a glimpse of sea and sky of another in an atmosphere full of love and respect for an ancient and spectacular universe.

In this regard, it is said that Sperlonga was founded by the Spartans and inhabited since the Paleolithic. Later, in imperial times, the city came under Roman rule and became, for its beauty, the summer residence of the Roman nobility and important center for the supply of fish, as evidenced by the fish ponds still found. To make it even more special and striking the town, are the numerous caves that preserve important pieces of sculptures, including "blinded Polyphemus. Do not miss it, then, the Grotto of Tiberius, little more than 1 km from the village, going to be one with the remains of the villa above, wanted Roman Emperor.

Even then, in fact, Tiberius liked to spend long in the cool quiet of this village, son of generous nature, so as to build their residence and gather numerous works of art. Today, many centuries later, it seems that historical value and ‘artistic’ beauty of Sperlonga remained unchanged over time, continuing to give strong emotions to its visitors.
